Henry Wang

Henry Wang, a current high school senior at Beijing Academy, began studying the piano at age four and composition at age 6. His musical influences include minimal music and jazz music. His compositions have been performed at Jordan Hall in Boston, MA; Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing, China; Pacific Spirit United Church in Vancouver, Canada; and more. They are also frequently featured in Yamaha International JOC Selection, an annual show of approximately 15 exceptional original musical works. Henry is the only student at Yamaha Music School China who has passed both Yamaha Piano Teacher's Grade 4 and Yamaha Fundamentals Grade 4. Henry was invited to attend the 2018 Yamaha JOC Master Class in Singapore as the sole representative of China. In 2023, Henry won the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s 16th Biennial Young Composers’ Competition.
Beyond his musical achievements, Henry has demonstrated excellence in computer science and has been exploring the intersection of technology and music. His accomplishments include winning a Global Top 10 position in Microsoft Imagine Cup Junior 2022, the Best Student Award at the 2020 Beijing Bajian Science Talents Training Program, and first place in the 41st Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition. Henry was co-president of the Beijing Academy Student Government from 2021 to 2023. He is now the Head Prefect of the Beijing Academy International Division Prefect Team. In recognition of his outstanding academic performance, achievements in music and computer science, and continuous school contributions, Henry was awarded the Beijing Academy Principal’s Special Award in November 2023.
